100 MIGRATORY – is an extensive, local and world-wide art project initiated by Monica L Edmondson, a Swedish artist, who has a connection to Australia, having studied at Canberra School of Art at the ANU. Vessel 9 of 100 has come to Canberra and is on exhibition at the Embassy of Sweden.
This extensive, local and world-wide art project initiated by Monica L Edmondson – explores issues such as identity, origin, allegiance and migration. A hundred glass vessels, all individually made by the artist herself, depart on a return journey, starting in their home in the vast, winter-white mountains of Sápmi – Sameland in the north of Sweden. From there the vessels migrate on their several journeys to different countries, environments and cultures.
Monica charts the progress of the 100 Migratory project on a blog where she also has a description of the overall project.
Monica studied in the Glass workshop in the School of Art for four years before returning to her Swedish home above the Arctic Circle. She also writes about her connections with Canberra and the Australian National University in her 100 Migratory blog.
