Keywords Lecture video: Gillian Russell on Romanticism
Monday 29 October 2012

Professor Gillian Russell delivered the School of Cultural Inquiry's first Keywords public lecture for 2012, Romanticism, on Monday 14 May.

Now you can catch her lecture, introduced by Dr Ned Curthoys, Keywords' convenor, on the ANU Channel at YouTube.

In the lecture, Professor Gillian Russell reflects on the history and current configuration of the category of 'Romanticism' in literary studies. She explores Romanticism's foundational status within English literature in the academy with reference to some recent debates, Romanticism's role in the Occupy movement, and in Michael Winterbottom's The Trip, considering what these might indicate about the current state of Romanticism/English literature and its possible future.

Gillian Russell is an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow in the School of Cultural Inquiry, CASS.  Her most recent book is The Playbill and Its People: Australia's Earliest Printed Document (2011).
