Apollo's Gift: Music and the Mind

ANU welcomes world renowned Music-Neurologist Prof. Eckart Altenmüller (Institute of Music Physiology and Musicians’ Medicine Hanover, Germany) for a week residency as Visiting Fellow as a result of ANU Woodwind Lecturer Sally Walker’s RHSA Grant. Also an accomplished flautist who studied with some of the world’s greatest teachers, Eckart Altenmüller will join flautist Sally Walker and pianist Natalia Tkachenko in a recital of Baroque works and a Music and the Mind-related work by Kats-Chernin (commissioned by Walker). The world-leading authority on music and the mind will also give a presentation on why music moves us. “Music is a universal language of emotions…Indirectly, music can improve the immune system by improving wellbeing and motivation”. (Eckart Altenmüller, Newcastle Herald)
