Dionisia Salas | Recent Paintings: In-Between States of Being

Dionisia Salas (b.1982, Larrakia Country, Darwin, Australia) explores in-between states of being, using the material tussle of painting to tap into areas of consciousness, subconsciousness and dream states; to play around in what is reality and what is imagined. This year she has two solo exhibitions at Goulburn Regional Gallery and NAP Contemporary. In 2023 she was a finalist in the Sir John Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW. Since 2007 Dionisia has been exhibiting regularly in solo and group, commercial, curated and artist initiated exhibitions. She has exhibited in university galleries, state-funded art organisations such as Canberra Contemporary Art Space (CCAS) and commercial galleries such as NAP Contemporary, Mildura, Sutton Gallery, Melbourne and Watters Gallery, Sydney. Dionisia has exhibited consistently in the critical and vibrant artist-run scene in Berlin and Australia including TCB, Melbourne and Pavillion am Milchhof, Berlin. Her work is held in public collections including Artbank, Canberra Museum and Gallery Collection, Australian National University Art Collection and the Goulburn Regional Gallery Art Collection as well as numerous private collections in Spain, Germany and Australia. Dionisia has received several competitive grants from state and national arts funding bodies and has been awarded funded residencies in Berlin and Australia. She currently lives and works on Walbanga Country, Braidwood, NSW.
