Elefteria Vlavianos | HDR Season One Exhibition Two
Elefteria Vlavianos, 'Poetic Structure #2,' 2017, acrylic on canvas 150 x 120 cm

Elefteria Vlavianos was born in Zimbabwe of mixed Armenian and Greek heritage. She is a painter whose practice has developed through an ongoing investigation into the process of abstraction, its vocabulary and conventions, as a visual translation of a displaced cultural aesthetic.

Imagery in her paintings derives from her current research of thirteenth century Armenian Manuscript paintings and the tradition of Armenian textile crafts. Continued themes within her practice and paintings, are time, silence, presence and memory as they weave into a dialogue between representation, visibility and processes of abstraction. In this framework issues such as colour, structure, and mark making are key concerns as they translate across time, space and between traditional practices.

Elefteria is currently a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy at the ANU School of Art and Design. She has a 1st class honours degree in Painting from ANU, and a BA with honours (Politics) from the University of Adelaide. She has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions. Her achievements include an APA scholarship, selection in the 18th National Textile Biennial, Capo Emerging Artist Award 2008 and the inaugural Embassy of Spain Traveling Scholarship 2002.
