The Friends of the School of Music established its ensemble prizes to promote ensemble playing in the tertiary student cohort, in all musical genres taught at the ANU School of Music.
Conditions of Award can be found here. Applications closed 12pm Tuesday 18 April.
To be eligible for the prizes, each ensemble must include at least one member who is a current tertiary student of the ANU School of Music. All of the remaining members must either be current domestic or international students enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at The Australian National University, or current students of the ANU Open School of Music.
Ensembles may include duos provided all performers are equal musical partners and ensembles do not include players in merely supporting roles. For example, a student performing an opera aria or a violin concerto with a student associate pianist are not permitted, but duos performing works for two pianos or for four hands at one piano are permitted to enter.
Each ensemble will perform for no longer than ten minutes.
Students are permitted to appear in more than one ensemble.
The Heats, originally scheduled to take place on Thursday 20 April, 5-8pm, will NOT go ahead.
Finals: Thursday 27 April, 6:30-8:30pm
Prizes will be awarded in two categories for each Prize:
the Friends Chamber Music Prize (First Prize $1,000, People's Choice (sponsored by Canberra Chamber Music Players) $600); and
the Friends Jazz and Contemporary Music Prize (First Prize $1,000, People's Choice $500).
Get your tickets now, so you can be there to witness the amazing line up of ANU School of Music ensembles on the night, and vote in the People's Choice Award!
