Dreamt up by Centre for Art History and Theory PhD candidate, Lara Nicholls, staff and students feature in the ANU podcast Reading the Room which records 36 members of the broader ANU community reading from Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own.

While in lockdown in 2020, Ms Nicholls joined forces with Professor Fiona Jenkins, Director of the Gender Institute to produce an ANU-wide podcast featuring members from across the ANU community reading the canonical feminist text 'A Room of One’s Own' by Virginia Woolf. Readers include the 27th Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard, ANU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Brian Schmidt, Dr. Beck Davis a host of other brilliant academics and ANU alumni, and students from Burgmann College.

‘Reading the Room’ will be launched by former Governor-General of Australia, Dame Quentin Bryce, who will lead us into an exciting panel discussion about the book.

The avatar for the project was designed by Kate Rice and Lara White, current students, who are also great friends and residents of Burgmann College. Lara White is also a reader for the project. School participants include Beck Davis, Rebecca Mayo, Sarah Scott, Lara Nicholls, Jessica Benter, Lara White and Charlotte Young. Michael Brand, alumnus and now Director of AGNSW is also a reader.
