The program for the 2019 Cultural Change and Migration Workshop is attached below. 

While the workshop is intended to be intensive and is intentionally kept small, we welcome students and academics from the Canberra community to join us for sessions that might be of interest to you. Please note we won't be able to provide catering for those who aren't participating in the workshop and receptions are reserved for participants only.

Migration – forced and unforced – is undoubtedly one of the key issues facing the globe this century. We have recently seen the direct impact of this in political developments in Britain and the United States, but these in fact reflect an unfolding crisis affecting every continent. The causes of migration are many from climate change, civil war and forced repatriation, to opportunities for trade and economic security. This is inevitably producing massive social and cultural change at both global and local levels and it is undoubtedly impacting upon scholarship across the disciplines.

The contributors to this workshop will draw on their work to reflect on these critical issues confronting scholars today, which will give us an opportunity to discuss common responses, both intellectual and political. Contributions can be interdisciplinary, theoretical, discipline-based, subject-based, text-based, or case studies. We hope to attract participants from a broad range of disciplines and perspectives across the humanities, arts and social sciences.

Senior academics and mid- and early career researchers will present lectures and papers and graduate students will be expected to give shorter presentations based on their work. Allotted times as follows:

• Senior Researchers: 1 hour (45 minutes talk + 15 minutes Q&A)
• Early-Mid Career Researchers: 45 minutes (30 minutes talk + 15 minutes Q&A)
• Students: 30 minutes (15 minutes talk + 15 minutes Q&A)
