Overcoming the Flames: a bushfire relief concert

Overcoming the Flames: a bushfire relief concert

CANCELLED EVENT

As a precautionary measure and based upon the advice from our expert panel, we will cancel all public and social events from Monday 16 March until the end of semester one, Saturday 20 June. This is a precautionary measure that we know will be disappointing for many, but our aim is to reduce opportunities for the virus to spread by limiting activity on campus. We are unable to provide online streaming, recording or modifications to these activities as our staff will be fully engaged in education and research tasks.

Please keep an eye on our webpage and Facebook page for updates. We share your disappointment and sadness regarding this decision but the health of all concerned is our first priority.

About this Event

In the wake of Australia’s worst summer in recent memory, we want to acknowledge the enormous destruction that has brought this country to its knees. We have witnessed unprecedented climate catastrophe that has garnered attention and support from the global community.

The ANU School of Music is hosting a fundraising event to honour the brave men and women who valiantly fought for our safety, and to celebrate the enduring human spirit in these times of crisis. All ticket funds will go towards supporting the families of fallen firefighters Samuel McPaul, Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O’Dwyer who tragically lost their lives this summer, as well as hard-hit RFS brigades and conservation efforts of the nearly-extinct Brushtail Rock Wallaby.

World-class performers and composers are generously donating their time and expertise for this event. Six WORLD PREMIERES will be featured alongside other well-known composers, including Manuel de Falla, Astor Piazzolla, Richard Strauss, Cesar Franck and more.

Show your community support by joining us for a truly remarkable concert event, showcasing the incredible talent of current and former students and staff from the ANU School of Music.
