Alison Alder named inaugural artist in residence at Parliament House Member for Eden-Monaro and Minister for Regional Australia, Kristy McBain, Alison Alder and Speaker of the House, Milton Dick in front of Alison's exhibition Australian Prime Ministers 1–16.
Wednesday 16 August 2023

President of the Senate, Senator Sue Lines named Honorary Associate Professor Alison Alder as inaugural Artist in Residence at the Australian Parliament House on Wednesday 10 August. Alison will be researching and creating a new body of work which will focus on the campaign to achieve full female suffrage for all Australian women which was not achieved until 1962.

The Speaker of the House, the Honourable Milton Dick, also launched a new publication, Picturing Politics: Australian Prime Ministers 1–16, which features Alison's artwork and descriptions of her process from her research into the personalities and legislative legacies of Australian Prime Ministers in the first half of the twentieth century.

Alison’s work blurs the line between studio, community, and social/political art practice. She has worked within community groups, research institutions and Indigenous organisations. Her research is focused on empowering communities through the visualisation of common social aims and under-represented histories.

Alison Alder is an Honorary Associate Professor, at the ANU School of Art & Design.
