HomeNewsHRC Warmly Welcomes Dr Gemma King
HRC warmly welcomes Dr Gemma King
Tuesday 27 July 2021

The Humanities Research Centre is delighted to welcome Dr Gemma King who has been awarded the HRC’s 2021 Semester 2 Internal Fellowship.

Dr King will be using her time with the HRC to work on publications and grant applications for her project on sign language cinema. She will be analysing contemporary films that represent deaf characters to study the relationship between sign language, social power and cultural identity.

As part of the regular HRC Seminar Series, Dr King will be delivering a presentation entitled ‘Signs on screen: deafness and sign language in contemporary film’ on Tuesday, 9 November. Further information and a registration link will be provided closer to the date.

We wish Dr King all the very best for her time with the HRC.
