Due to the closure of the Assembly building during COVID lockdown, this exhibition showcases work by the Emerging Artist Support Scheme Speaker’s Award winners, from 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Each year the Speaker’s Award offers two graduates of the ANU School of Art & Design a cash prize, an invitation to have a work on view in the Assembly building for a year, and in recent years, to exhibit new work a year after graduation. 

The Emerging Artist Support Scheme (EASS) is a one-of-a-kind scheme that supports School of Art & Design undergraduate and postgraduate students by offering a variety of awards, and commissioning and acquiring new artworks. These opportunities are unique to graduates of the ANU.

EASS was founded in 1988 by the then Director of the School, David Williams. From modest beginnings, EASS has continued to grow over the past three decades and boasts the strong support of our wonderful community of arts patrons: individuals, businesses, galleries and organisations.
