Whitworth-Roach Competition Concert: Acacia Quartet

The Whitworth-Roach Classical Music Performance Competition occurs annually and is open to all students of the Australian National University. With $20,000 in prizes, the opportunity for musicians from across the campus to enter this competition for the chance to win such generous prize money, makes this an important highlight in the University’s calendar.

The Whitworth-Roach supporting endowment, generously donated by Ms Christine Roach makes provision for the ANU School of Music to invite musicians of international acclaim to visit the university in the week of the competition each year. The musicians will contribute to the educational and outreach programs of the School as well as act as competition judges.

The School of Music is proud to welcome the Acacia Quartet for the Competition, as both guest artists and adjudicators. In nearly eight years Acacia Quartet has won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs which couple established repertoire with the unorthodox. Acacia has recorded six albums – three of which earned nominations for an ARIA Award for ‘Best Classical Album’ and an APRA-AMCOS Art Music ‘Award for Excellence’. The Acacia Quartet consists of violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violist Stefan Duwe, and cellist Anna Martin-Scrase.
