ANU/CANBERRA TIMES MEET THE AUTHOR
ABC Q&A host and one of Australia's most admired journalists, Tony Jones is moving to China. But first he's coming to Canberra for a conversation with Mark Kenny on Tony's new political thriller, In Darkness Visible, and his life as a journalist.
In Darkness Visible, is an intriguing and gripping, novel which blurs the lines between fiction and world-wide political reality. It follows the same main characters featured in his bestselling debut novel The Twentieth Man, namely Croatian -Australian Marin Katich and freelance Australian journalist Anna Rosen.
From Croatia to The Hague to Bosnia and Herzegovina to Sydney, Anna and Marin's story intertwine in what Jennifer Byrne has called "a racy, classy political thriller". In Darkness Visible navigates the "murky world of national and international secret agencies", amid a "dangerous pursuit of justice and revenge", as Anna must fight for what she believes in and for those she loves.
Tony Jones, who is accompanying his wife, Sarah Ferguson to China in 2020, has won six Walkley awards and two Logies. When an ABC Europe correspondent Tony Jones covered, inter alia, the civil wars in Yugoslavia and the collapse of communism in Russia. Jones says his novels were inspired by "years of working on the ground in Eastern Europe and, in particular, the former Yugoslavia. There are elements of the story which reflect my experience as a journalist".
There will also be an opportunity for audience Q&A with the master of Q&A!
