(Re)Assembling Museological Diversity

In this talk, Christina Kreps describes a collaborative project devoted to researching, assembling, archiving, and disseminating materials on diverse forms of museums, curation, and heritage practice. The project aims to fill a gap in the literature and information sources on alternative, Indigenous, vernacular museologies by making historical and lesser- known works more visible. Kreps will discuss the outcomes of a three-day workshop that brought together Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars and cultural practitioners to conceptualize a book and larger project for activating knowledge represented in these materials, for example, through community-based cultural conservation and archiving projects.

Speaker:

Christina Kreps is Professor of Anthropology and the Director of the Museum of Anthropology and Museum and Heritage Studies at the University of Denver in Colorado, USA. Professor Kreps is the author of Museums and Anthropology In The Age Of Engagement (2020) and co-edited Pragmatic Imagination and the New Museum Anthropology with Christina J. Hodge which was published by Routledge in 2024.
