Hoi Pan Karma Kong was born in Hong Kong. He received the bachelor’s degree on heritage management from City University of Hong Kong and the master’s degree on media studies from The University of Tokyo. He currently is a doctoral student in ANU majoring in anthropology. With the ley word of Kowloon Walled City, his PhD project aims to display the nostalgia of Hongkongers as a superposition of personal experiences, political forces, social events, and cultural matters in the fabric of engagements of China, British Hong Kong, and Japan, revealing multidirectional posture to comprehend the past, the present and the future. His research interests include nostalgia, memory, media, and heritage in Asia, focusing on the field of Hong Kong, Japan, and China.
