Piksa Inap Tok (Pictures Can talk) celebrates the diversity and dynamism of PNG art today. Over 80 works from private collections have been brought together for a special exhibition which opens 17 September to help commemorate Papua New Guinea’s 44th Independence Day celebrations. These rarely seen works carry messages about personal identities and social and national issues, highlighting PNG’s political and social engagement with its Asian and Australian neighbours. Piksa Inap Tok (Pictures Can talk) is a rare opportunity to see a range of masterful works that are emblematic of Papua New Guinea’s contemporary art and cultural history. 

The Exhibition was organised and initiated by the late Dr. Bill Standish, and has been curated by Dr Anna Edmundson (Lecturer & Internships Coordinator, ANU Centre for Heritage & Museum Studies).


Piksa Inap Tok has been created in conjunction with the symposium Art Nau: Contemporary Art and Creative Possibilities in PNG, which will run from September 16 to 17 at the Australian National University. For more information and to register your attendance, please see the event page.
