i hope you get this | Raquel Ormella
i hope you get this brings together a selection of new and recent work by one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, Raquel Ormella. The survey includes works in variety of media, with a particular focus on her experimental textiles. The exhibition explores key themes that Ormella has consistently developed in her work: social and environmental activism; human and animal relationships; nationalism and national identity.
Ormella's experimental use of textiles and edgy manipulation of semiotics have won her sustained critical attention, and this is her first survey exhibition. It invites gallery visitors to reflect on issues of nationalism, political activism and environmental intervention.
Dr Raquel Ormella is a Lecturer in the Painting Workshop and the Honours Convenor at the ANU School of Art & Design.
