WINNER // Congratulations to Madisyn Zabel, the recipient of the 2020 David Henshall Emerging Artist Prize for her piece 'Illuminate III,’ 2020. This prize is awarded as part of the 2020 Fuse Glass Prize and provides $2,500 cash and a professional development residency at JamFactory.
Madisyn has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) from ANU School of Art & Design. She has participated in residencies at Berlin Glas e.V., Canberra Glassworks and the Glass Studio at the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, USA. Zabel was awarded Warm Glass UK’s Glass Prize (Bullseye Artists) in 2016 and the Jutta Cuny-Franz Foundation’s Talent Award from the Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf in 2017. Her work has been shown internationally – including the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou; Berlin Glas e.V and the Corning Museum of Glass, New York.
“There is a wonderful confidence in submitting this collection of small jewel-like pieces. The level of refinement is superb, removing all distraction from the playful interaction of light, shadow, colour and geometry that draws you in to its intimate space.” Judge, Brian Parkes.
The exhibition of finalists’ works is showing at JamFactory, Adelaide until 20 September 2020 and the Australian Design Centre, Sydney from 9 October – 18 November 2020.
