Julie Gough will speak about her current exhibition GHOSTLAND at the ANU School of Art & Design Gallery, and her art and research processes that focus on locating and representing often concealed aspects of the colonial past, particularly in Lutruwita/Tasmania.  

Julie Gough is an artist, writer and curator based in Nipaluna/Hobart. Gough’s art-research involves uncovering and re-presenting conflicting and subsumed histories, many referring to her family's experiences as Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Her Briggs>Johnson>Gower family have lived in the Latrobe region of Lutruwita/Tasmania since the 1840s, with Tebrikunna their Traditional Country.  Gough holds PhD, MA, Hons and BA degrees from the Universities of Tasmania, London (Goldsmiths college), West Australia, and Curtin University. Gough has exhibited in more than 200 exhibitions, and her artwork is held in most national and state collections. In 2021 Gough’s publication Tense Past was published by Tebrikunna Press, following Fugitive History (UWA Press) and Shale (A Published Event) in 2018. 

This event will be held both on-campus and online via Zoom (a link to the online stream will be sent to registered attendees).
