The goals of the ANU School of Music are excellence in teaching, research, service, and music making. And with the release of the Strategic Plan 2019–2023, the School is planning for an exciting and dynamic future through changes already well underway.
The Strategic Plan addresses how music is taught and made within ANU, defining teaching, research and service, documenting changes that have already been made in response to the 2016 Podger report, and presenting a clear vision. It has a simple premise: to rebuild the culture and viability of the School of Music, enhance the student experience and nurture positive relationships with the community.
to rebuild the culture and viability of the School of Music, enhance the student experience and nurture positive relationships with the community
The Plan was prepared through a process of extensive staff, student and community consultation, and is part of a larger cultural shift at the School. It will be reviewed after three years.
The Plan charts a course towards music performance and research as core parts of the School of Music, recognising the successful changes in music education at ANU in recent years. It will facilitate an open and constructive dialogue between students and staff, to make the School a student-centred institution that enables students to grow into artistic and academic excellence while they study. The Plan will also support staff as they build international careers in music and research, grow the stature and standing of the School, and foster healthy relationships between the School, the ANU and the community of Canberra.
